Xinjiang Ahe Highway: Scenic Drive

In Xinjiang, the popularity of the Duku Highway is almost well-known and has become a myth in the self driving industry.

Now, there is a self driving highway that is even more beautiful than the Duku Highway, and it is the Ahe Highway.

The Ahe Highway starts at the junction of Xiaodonggou in Altay City, Xinjiang, and leads to Hemu, with a total length of 208 kilometers.

Ahe Highway is a world-class scenic road that Xinjiang is fully committed to building, and is expected to be opened to traffic in September this year.

This 208km long highway gathers the essence of Altay, which is breathtaking.

It winds through the green mountains and waters, as if it were a flowing painting. The scenery along the way is picturesque, and the changes of the four seasons give it different charm.

The spring on this road, with its wild greenery, dazzling yellow, and charming wild peonies and golden lotus flowers, made my eyes drunk.

In the summer of this road, a cloud drifts by, a drizzle falls, and then you will welcome a stunning rainbow hanging on the treetops.

In autumn on this road, a single night’s wind can turn a forest yellow, a shower can knock off leaves all over the ground, and the eyes are filled with dazzling golden, yellow, and red colors, as if God has overturned the color palette.

Along the Ahe Highway, every inch of land exudes the charm of nature.

[Scenic Spots Along the Way]

✅ Xiaodonggou Forest Park: This pristine forest land is rich in plant species and presents different scenery in different seasons, making it an ideal place for photographers. It is known as the “Little Li River” of the local area.

✅ Usilik Wetland Park: Recognized as a “national wetland park” since 2016, it boasts a diverse wildlife and wetland ecosystem, including swamps, rivers, lakes, and vast peatlands.

✅ Tongba Fantasy Forest: an untouched mysterious forest land, relying on a peaceful mountain forest, the air is filled with moisture, and clouds and mist often linger, like a fairyland on earth.

✅ Ptolemy: A vast primitive grassland where you may encounter wild camels along the way. In Kazakh, it means’ home of cranes’ and is a holy land for herdsmen to graze in summer. The mountain is covered with ancient forests such as spruce and red pine, with a cool and pleasant climate and fresh air, making it an excellent place to enjoy the beauty of grasslands and natural scenery.

✅ Hemu Village: a village inhabited by Tuwa people. Wooden houses made of pine logs are neatly arranged, half hidden in the shadows of the mountains and half bathed in the bright sunshine. I really love this Hemu Grassland with forests and mountains as its backing.

Self driving tour is the best way to experience the Ahe Highway. Driving slowly, the scenery outside the window is in full view, and there is no longer a distance between the soul and nature.

Along the way, surrounded by dense forests, one can sometimes see towering peaks, and sometimes be surrounded by blue skies and white clouds, as if one is in a fairyland on earth.

More opportunities to park in a small parking lot, step out of the car door, breathe in the fresh air, and feel the embrace of nature.
